藝時之選—當代潮流展
本展企圖從次文化到主流文化的歷程探究當代藝術的其中一條發展脈絡,這特有的從街頭「叛逆」到進入「殿堂」,是一股全球趨勢,也是一段十分特別的追尋與轉變過程,也是未來在當下當代藝術重要歷史的一部分。本展的藝術家雖然都是一時之選,但希望透過多面向的藝術家邀請,對於此重要議題提出一些討論的可能性,並作為當代潮流文化多元思考的一個取向。
亞洲隨著整體經濟與生活水準快速提升,帶動了當代藝術快速發展,塗鴉潮流藝術與動漫文創衍生等,都成為新世代追逐的藝術形態與美學視界,而這股潮流尤其在東南亞等地尤盛,從受西方影響很大的香港開始,學習了許多西方的觀念與技術,而台灣同樣也受到許多的影響,然相較於東南亞其他國家,塗鴉潮流藝術或說時尚潮流藝術以及文創概念衍生的藝術衍生品等等,都走得更早更前沿些,因此,也讓東南亞其他國家與台灣的交流變得更具意義。塗鴉來自街頭,時尚潮流來自於生活提升後的對流行文化的渴望以及表現,東南亞在這幾年迅猛的經濟發展,以及網路普及全球化影響下其青少年快速吸收西方的文化藝術養分後,開始對於潮流藝術的追求與急於跟世界接軌,讓許多年輕世代的藝術家紛紛投入此類型的創作,也跟各國在地文化有了融合與交輝,看似全球化浪潮下的一種風潮,可是在東南亞藝術家的創作中,又有一種屬於亞洲熟悉的表現。這次在藝術教育館的展覽,特別邀請到香港、印尼等多位藝術家到台灣來,除了有他們擅長的現場創作之外,也帶了屬於有別於台灣潮流文化的表現形態與想法,希望透過這樣的展覽交流,讓彼此更添了解,讓交流更具意義。
近年來美術館紛紛推出以動漫美學為主題的展覽,這兩年更有所謂「潮藝術」或「潮文化」的新鮮名詞,都顯示了新世代美學的某種未來進入藝術史的可能性,也是當代藝術中不可忽視的一支重要美學觀點與論述方向。凡上種種,都與當下當代所謂的跨界跨域性脫不了關係,正因為對於整體文化與創意的追捧,加上扁平化世界全球資訊的普及,讓所謂的塗鴉、時尚、與潮流都互相的交雜、融合與質變,時尚藝術、塗鴉藝術、潮流藝術或許還沒有一個統稱的藝術類別名詞,但異曲同工的概念都是與當代青春文化相關乎的藝術表現形態,所展現的跨域議題也多離不開當下生活所關注的範疇。本展擬擴大對於街頭塗鴉藝術與時尚潮流文化的範圍,將邀請三十一位國內外不同藝術取向的藝術家聯合展出,試圖透過多元的藝術表現形態,觀察當下當代青春文化所關注的議題與美學觀,同時透過收藏視野深究未來的發展趨勢與新的可能性。
This exhibition aims to explore how subcultures are sublimated into becoming the mainstream in contemporary art scene. The global wave of displaying the "rebellious" street art in art museums marks an extremely unique quest and transformation, which will surely become an important chapter of contemporary art history in the future. The artists featured in this exhibition form an excellent selection that encompasses different fields. Through their diverse enunciations of works, the exhibition attempts to explore the development of the contemporary art, and their diverse voices through their works are regarded as a perspective of urban art.
The rapid development of the economy and living standard in Asia has fueled the growth of contemporary art; and graffiti art, animation and comic culture have consequently become art forms and aesthetic fields that the young generation is pursuing, which is a trend particularly obvious in Southeast Asia. This trend first started with Hong Kong, which has been under Western deeply influences for a long time and absorbed numerous Western concepts and techniques. Taiwan has also been extensively influenced in a similar way. However, for Taiwan, graffiti art, urban art, and other art forms derived from cultural creative concepts have been developed even earlier than Southeast Asian countries. Thus, making the exchange between these Southeast Asian countries and Taiwan are more meaningful. Graffiti comes from the street whereas style and trends originate from desire and expression of popular culture that emerges after living standard is improved. Southeast Asian region has been experiencing rapid economic growth. As internet becomes widely available and the influence of globalization spreads, teenagers in this region have also quickly absorbed Western culture and art and have begun pursuing urban art to connect with the world. Consequently, more young artists have delved into urban art creation while incorporating local culture into their splendid works. Amidst the prevailing waves of globalization, the works of Southeast Asian artists also demonstrate a unique Asian quality. This exhibition presented by the National
Taiwan Arts Education Center specially invites multiple artists from around the world, including Hong Kong and Indonesia, who not only create their signature artworks on site but also introduce expressions and ideas of urban culture that are different from that of Taiwan. It is hoped that the exchange facilitated by the exhibition can benefit every participant and audience from gaining further understandings and render the interaction more meaningful.
In recent years, art museums have been presenting thematic exhibitions featuring animation and comic aesthetics; and in the last couple of years, new terms like "trendy culture" and "trendy art" have been coined, which shows that the aesthetics of the new generation can someday be recorded in art history in the future as well and become a significant aesthetics to be discussed and theorized in contemporary art. These new phenomena are related to cross-disciplinary and cross-over practice in contemporary art. The growing attention to the overall culture and creativity, along with easy access to information of art field in this ever-flattening world, graffiti, fashion and urban trends have been increasingly integrating and changing. Although there is yet a specific term to include style trends, graffiti and street art, a commonality underlying all of them is their relevance to contemporary youth culture and the art forms derived from it. The cross-disciplinary issues they explore are very much related to contemporary daily life. This exhibition expands its scope to include street graffiti, fashion style and trends, and showcases 31 artists of different fields from Taiwan and abroad. Through their diverse practice, the exhibition examines issues discussed in contemporary youth culture and its aesthetics while foreshadowing emerging trends and new possibilities through the collections of various collectors.
