Kikuta Naomi
Kikuta's work, though created with Western media, displays a profound influence of the ukiyo-e, showing compositions and forms informed by the Japanese tradition and artistic elements, with a splendid gold or silver background. She used acrylic pigments, ink, and silver foil to create her artworks in this exhibition. These artworks are related to the style of Nihonga and Japanese traditional clothes. In her art pieces, gold fishes swim in water and between flowers to showcase the combination of bright colors and Japanese traditional aesthetics.

One of her art pieces, Thumbelina's Dream, describes the delightful adventures of Thumbelina, who was born from flowers. The goldfish and flowers in the painting represents happiness. In Swim, traditionally, goldfish is bred for appreciation. However, when one opens one's mind and looks into the eyes of the goldfishes, it is possible to feel inspired, perceive one's inner world, and become connected to other living beings on Earth as well as one's ideal self.
